About GuessTheCountry

GuessTheCountry is a free, browser-only geography quiz. It asks you to identify countries from their outline shape, capital city, or a short set of region and size clues, across three difficulty tiers.

Purpose and audience

The project is built for anyone brushing up on world geography: students, travelers, trivia fans, or teachers looking for a quick classroom warm-up.

Data sources

Country outlines are adapted from the world-map-country-shapes project (MIT License). Country names, capitals, regions, and area figures are adapted from the mledoze/countries dataset (Open Data Commons Open Database License). Flag icons are from the flag-icons project (MIT License).

Limitations

The quiz covers 184 sovereign countries rather than every territory or dependency. Outlines are simplified for display and are not intended for precise cartographic reference. Country data can change over time (borders, capitals); if you spot an error, see the contact page.
